Changes from Mobile Geo version 2.0 to 2.5
May 24, 2010
New Features
- Postal code address matching: Now you will find two menu items where before there only was "Set an address":
- Set an address by city
- Set an address by postal code: this new option allows you to set addresses selecting a postal code instead of a city.
- Manual route creation: Now, Functions (left soft) > Route Functions have the item "Create route" which gives you two options:
- Create automatic route: which covers the existing route creation in previous versions of Mobile Geo.
- Create manual route: which allows you to create a route entering the waypoints manually. Once you start creating a manual route you're allowed to add waypoints to it, name the waypoints and specify if it are turn points or not and describe the turn details. Once created, manual routes can be saved as any other route for further use, sharing it, etcetera.
- Compatibility with 2010 maps and POIs
- New shortcut to "User POIs" under Functions > Set positions.
- Now you can set an user POI as destination or virtual position from the User POI's list itself (no need to open first the POI details screen). When you press enter on a POI from the list you get the menu: Open, Set as destination, Set as virtual position, Delete.
- Ability to create and save a route based on a GPS replay. Go to Functions (left softkey) > Modes > GPS Replays > GPS Replay list, select a file from the list and press Enter on it, the popup menu will show a new option "Create route from replay". Once the route is created you can load and follow it, review its waypoints, delete the route and the same things that you can do with any other saved route in your device.
- Mobile Geo should now automatically adjust the map & POI directory to the localized name of storage cards when running on non English devices.
Fixed Bugs
- Integration with Outlook contacts should work fine.
- MG should allow to save user POIs always, no matter if you defined the POI author name or not. You should be asked for the POI author name when you try to create a User POI for first time (the default POI author name is "MG_User").
- "Auto switch command layout" under Functions > Settings > General settings must have effect now.
- If you go to Functions > Route functions > Load route and press "Cancel" in the dialog MG shouldn't show any unstable behavior.
- Lookaround announcements should be activated by default when you install MG 2.5.
- When returning to the advanced search screen after changing any of the search parameters, the "search string" field is spoken. The currently selected field, I.E. category, subcategory, etc, is highlighted but not spoken. One must arrow up and down to figure out that the most recently changed option is still selected and was changed.
- Functions > Set positions > Set an address > User POI should work as expected.
Misc.
- Legacy "Max. POI list size" has been removed from settings.

POI functionality
- You can edit many more POI detail values such as street, zip code, city, state, phone, fax, email, web address, author, etc.
- You can perform a POI search for all directions, all categories and subcategories and text matching for several fields, or you can search for POIs just ahead of you.
- 2.5 million extra user and commercial POIs are available for free download.
- When you press Enter on the web address item in the POI Details screen, Mobile Geo will show a popup menu which allows you to select between editing the current value or navigating to that webpage using the default browser.
- When you press Enter on the email field in the POI details screen, Mobile Geo will show a popup menu which allows you to select between editing the current value or sending an email to that address using the default email client.
All of these improvements make the application much more powerful and flexible. For example, if you are having a Sunday walk and want to book a restaurant for lunch, you can use Mobile Geo Advanced POI search to localize your desired restaurant. You can define the category and subcategory of the POI (Restaurant, Steak House), the scope of the search (3 km ahead) and much more. Once found, you can press enter on the web address if available and get more information about the food and atmosphere and if you like it you can easily select the phone number and automatically dial it to make a reservation. Then you can set the address of the restaurant as a destination, create a route and walk there listening to Mobile Geo's instructions.
More features and improvements
- New setting to define the maximum speed to announce approaching intersections. In the previous version of Mobile Geo, intersection announcements were disabled when approaching at speeds above 15 miles per hour. In this version of Mobile Geo, this parameter is user defined.
- Implementation of a pedometer which counts the distance travelled. You can use it to keep track of the distance you walked, for example as a way to monitor exercise every day.
- Vibration alerts working now in Pocket PCs, just like in Smartphones.
- Audio feedback should be provided while performing some actions where Mobile Geo was silent before (opening new screens, receiver reconnection, ...). The sound played when Mobile Geo is busy has been changed to be more subtle.
- To use your POIs and Routes from previous Sendero GPS versions, install the Route and POI Converter program on your PC and convert to a 5.0 compatible version. To download this Sendero application click here
