- DOUBLE FLAVOR: There are 2 flavors of Mobile Speak, Mobile Speak for Symbian and Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile. The Mobile Speak Smartphone application and the Mobile Speak Pocket application have merged into one product, Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile. The same for Mobile Magnifier.
- AUTOMATIC DEACTIVATION: No need to deactivate your license from the old device before activating it on a new device.
- NO MORE PAPERWORK: If your phone is stolen, broken or lost, as long as you don't change phone numbers, you don't have to send any kind of certificate, just install the software in your new device and activate it.
- FREE TO CHANGE SIM CARDS: If you are a GSM user, there will not be any additional cost to change SIM card as long as your phone number remains the same.
Note: For our users who prefer to have a license tied to their handset they can get Mobile Speak with the device-based licensing method.
Introduction
Mobile Speak allows you to choose between 2 licensing methods, one based upon your telephone number (known as phone number based licensing), and one based upon a unique identifier for your device (known as device based licensing).
Mobile Speak's flavours
Prior to 4.0, there were 3 flavors of Mobile Speak: Mobile Speak for Symbian phones, Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones (aka Mobile Speak Smartphone) and Mobile Speak for Pocket PCs (aka Mobile Speak Pocket).
Since 4.0 there are only 2 flavors of Mobile Speak: Mobile Speak for Symbian and Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile. Mobile Speak Smartphone and Mobile Speak Pocket have merged into Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile. This means that whatever supported Windows Mobile device you have, no matter if it is a Smartphone or Pocket PC (touch screen devices), the Mobile Speak installation file is the same. Therefore there are now 2 Mobile Speak installation files instead of 3: Mobile Speak for Symbian (.sis) and Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile (.exe).
Mobile Speak's version number
Prior to 4.0, the latest Mobile Speak versions available were Mobile Speak V2.1 for Windows Mobile Smartphones, Mobile Speak V2.1 for Pocket PCs and Mobile Speak V3.82 for Symbian phones.
We decided to synchronize the version number to 4.0 for all new Mobile Speak products. So, even if the previous version of Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones and Mobile Speak for Pocket PCs was V2.1, we jump to V4.0 as the latest version of Mobile Speak for Symbian was V3.82. There is not and won't be any V3.xx for Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones and Mobile Speak for Pocket PCs.
Mobile Speak’s phone number based licensing method
This is the new licensing method for Mobile Speak. It is based on your mobile telephone number. When activating your license you will be asked to enter your mobile phone number.
The main advantage of this new licensing system is its cross-platform and cross-device capabilities, which allow you to move your license of Mobile Speak, Mobile Magnifier, and other Code Factory products free of charge between supported Symbian phones, Windows Mobile Smartphones and Pocket PCs as many times as you wish, as long as you keep the same phone number. Remember that Mobile Speak and Mobile Magnifier are cross platform and cross device whereas Mobile DAISY Player, Color Recognizer and Mobile Geo are only cross device, they are not available on both platforms, Symbian and Windows Mobile. If you change phone numbers, you will need to purchase a number transfer to continue using your Code Factory products.
Mobile Speak’s device based licensing method
This licensing method is based on the serial number of your mobile phone, sometimes known as an IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) or ESN (Electronic Serial Number). Your license is tied to your device. Therefore, if you want to use your license on a new device you will have to buy a license transfer. However, there are no restrictions when changing phone numbers or SIM cards, which result in a phone number change. As long as you keep the same device, you can change phone numbers as many times as you wish.
What is the main difference between the phone number based and device based licensing methods?
The choice is up to you! If you are often changing devices you might prefer to go for the phone number based licensing system, whereas you might choose the device based licensing system if you often change phone numbers, use more than one phone number at the same time, or simply don’t use any because you don’t have phone service or don’t use a device with cell phone functionality.
Which licensing system should you choose? Phone number based or device based?
MULTIPLE DEVICES, MULTIPLE NUMBERS
You have several phones but always use them with phone service and the same phone number.
You have 2 or more phones that you want to use with Mobile Speak. Each time you use one of them you insert the same SIM card, or activate the handset on the same network with the same account, and therefore always use all of your phones with the same phone number and with phone service activated.
If you get Mobile Speak with its phone number based licensing method, you will be able to move your license from one device to another as many times as you wish, and for free. The only conditions are that you need to keep the same phone number, have phone service activated and use a device supported by Code Factory. Remember also that phone number licensing for Mobile Speak is cross device as well as cross platform. Therefore you can move your license between a Symbian phone such as the Nokia E71, a Windows Mobile Smartphone such as the Samsung Jack and a Pocket PC such as the HTC Touch Pro. You are no longer limited by the operating system of your phone.
You have only 1 device but you are often using it with different phone numbers
You have 1 mobile device, no matter whether it is a Symbian phone like the Nokia 6120, a Windows Mobile Smartphone like the HTC S740, or a Pocket PC like the HTC TyTN 2.
And for different reasons, you might often change phone numbers. It can be because:
- You have 1 SIM card for work and another for personal use.
- You are traveling abroad often and always get local SIM cards to avoid roaming costs.
- You are moving often inside your own country, and you receive a new phone number on each occasion.
- In your country, it is very cheap and easy to get a SIM card with a new phone number and it allows you to have different cell phone plans from the same or different mobile carriers, and always use the one which gives you the cheapest price depending upon if you are sending SMS messages, making long distance calls, using Internet, etc.
In those cases you should get the device based licensing for Mobile Speak, it will allow you to use Mobile Speak with different phone numbers, but you will have to purchase a license transfer if you need to move your license to another device.
If you get the phone number based licensing system, keep in mind that if you can insert your original SIM card with your licensed phone number once every 12 hours, you will be able to use Mobile Speak with a SIM card with another phone number.
You are using your phone with a TWIN SIM card
A TWIN card is a SIM card which can access two phone lines, for example, one for personal use and the other for professional use. When you start your phone, you are asked to enter one of 2 PIN codes. The PIN entered determines the line that will be active. Depending on the country, this type of SIM card might have different names; for more information, contact your mobile carrier.
If you get device based licensing for Mobile Speak, you will be able to use your license of Mobile Speak, no matter which line of your SIM card you are using. If you wish to get Mobile Speak's phone number based licensing, Code Factory CANNOT guarantee that your Mobile Speak license will work when switching between your two lines. Code Factory has run some tests with Vodafone Spain’s TWIN cards, and the license persisted over changes from one line to another. However, if you are using TWIN cards from other operators, or from other countries, Code Factory CANNOT guarantee that they will work in the same way. Note that during the trial of Mobile Speak with phone number based licensing, you WILL NOT be able to figure out if it will work or not because the trials are not yet based on your mobile phone number like the full version will be. Keep in mind that, even in the cases where the twin card is set up in a way which will not allow the license to persist across the line, you may reestablish your license by switching to your original and licensed line once every 12 hours
You want to use Mobile Speak on several phones with several phone numbers
In this case you will probably need to purchase several licenses of Mobile Speak.
If you have Mobile Speak with device based licensing and need to change devices, you will have to purchase a license transfer. If you have Mobile Speak's phone number based licensing method and need to change phone numbers, you will have to purchase a number transfer.
For example, if you want to use 2 phones with 2 different phone numbers, there are 3 possible scenarios. You can purchase:
- 2 licenses of Mobile Speak with the phone number based licensing method which will allow you to move your licenses from one device to another as long as you keep the same phone number.
- 2 licenses of Mobile Speak with the device based licensing method which will allow you to use your license on the same device but with different phone numbers.
- 1 license of Mobile Speak with the phone number based licensing method and 1 license of Mobile Speak with the device based licensing method.
You have several devices, but do not always use all of them with phone service or 1 of them is a PDA only.
In this case you will need to purchase several licenses of Mobile Speak.
Mobile Speak with phone number based licensing requires you to use your device with phone service. Therefore, it is not compatible with unactivated CDMA phones or GSM phones without an activated SIM card, nor is it compatible with devices which have no mobile phone capabilities. Consequently, if you want to use one of your phones without phone service (because you only want to use your phone as a note taker or a book reader) or if one of your devices is a PDA without a cellular phone, then you will have to purchase a license of Mobile Speak with the device based licensing method for that particular device.
Imagine you have the following 3 phones:
- 1 PDA only such as the Dell Axim X51 that you use as a note taker and book reader
- 1 Nokia N96 that you use to make calls, send SMS messages, etc
- 1 Motorola Q that you use for professional use with another phone number.
To use Mobile Speak with your Dell Axim X51, you will need to purchase 1 license of Mobile Speak with the device based licensing method as this device is not supported by Mobile Speak's phone number based licensing method. However you can also decide not to upgrade to Mobile Speak and keep using Mobile Speak Pocket V2.1 with your PDA, which will be at no additional cost.
For the 2 other phones, the Nokia N96 and the Motorola Q, if you need to use both phones at the same time, each of them with a different phone number, and need to do so on a regular basis, then you will need to purchase two other licenses, with either device or phone number based licensing. Note that before Mobile Speak, you would also have needed to buy 3 licenses: 1 license of Mobile Speak Pocket for the Dell Axim X51, 1 license of Mobile Speak for Symbian for the Nokia N96 and 1 license of Mobile Speak Smartphone for the Motorola Q.
TRAVELING
Code Factory allows you to use your Mobile Speak phone number based license for 30 days with a different SIM Card with a different phone number. Therefore every year you can travel and use a local SIM card for 30 days for free. Note that the 30 day periods are not accumulative over different years, nor can they be broken into shorter periods (for example, two 15-day periods).
Traveling for short periods of time
You do not travel often, but once in a while may go abroad for a period of time and, when abroad, obtain a local SIM card to avoid paying roaming costs. If you have Mobile Speak with phone number based licensing, when you change SIM cards, you can use your phone for 12 hours before being asked to reinsert your original SIM card. Therefore if you insert your original SIM card once every 12 hours while you are abroad you will be able to use local SIM cards. Note that, when you reinsert the original SIM card, you will not be asked for activation and an Internet connection will not be required.
Traveling frequently, or traveling for long periods of time
You travel abroad often, or travel for long continuous periods, and always get local SIM cards so that you avoid paying roaming costs. If you get Mobile Speak's device based licensing, you will not have to insert your original SIM card every 12 hours.
DO NOT HAVE CELL PHONE NUMBER
PDA only devices
You have a PDA only device which is a Pocket PC without cell phone functionality such as the Dell Axim X51. The PDA only devices are not mobile phones. They are personal digital assistants that are usually used for professional use. In this case you need to get Mobile Speak with device based licensing method, because PDAs only are not supported by Mobile Speak phone number based licensing method.
No phone service
You have a phone but without cell phone service. You don’t use your mobile phone to make calls or send SMS messages; you prefer to use it for other purposes such as a note taker or book reader. You will need Mobile Speak with device based licensing, because phone number based licensing requires an activated cellular number on the device. Note that if you have a GSM phone, you can use Mobile Speak without a SIM card, and therefore without phone service, for 3 days. After 3 days you will be asked to insert your SIM card again, and if the original SIM card is not inserted, Mobile Speak will stop working.
BROKEN/LOST/STOLEN PHONE
Mobile Speak with device based licensing
If you have Mobile Speak with device based licensing and your phone is broken, lost or stolen, you will need to purchase a license transfer in order to be able to use your license on a new device.
Note that Code Factory will ONLY give free replacement licenses if your device has been BROKEN and replaced under warranty due to a manufacturer defect within the first 12 months after the purchase of your Code Factory license or upgrade. The free license replacement is a license to be used on another device, for the same products as long as Code Factory receives a document from your mobile telephone operator or mobile telephone store showing that your device has been broken and exchanged under warranty. Note that the IMEI of the broken device and the IMEI of the new device must be stated on that document. These documents may be sent to your distributor or to Code Factory
- via Email at: sales@codefactory.es
- by fax at: +34 937331434
- by postal mail at: Code Factory S.L, Carrer Major 19 2-3, 08221 Terrassa (Barcelona), SPAIN.
Upon receipt of such a document, the product's owner will be issued a free replacement license for the product which was originally purchased.
If your phone is lost, broken outside of the manufacturer's warranty period, or stolen, you will need to purchase a license transfer to use your license on another device. If you want to be able to change phones easily, without having to pay any transfer fee, Code Factory recommends that you purchase Mobile Speak with its phone number based licensing.
