Code Factory New Product Licensing System

The new Code Factory licensing system is based on User IDs. Your User ID is your mobile phone number. First you have to contact a Code Factory's distributor to buy a license of the desired product and then your mobile phone number will be activated as your User ID.

What is Mobile Speak V4.0 and how is it different from the previous Mobile Speak versions?

Code Factory licensing differs, slightly, between GSM devices and CDMA devices. To understand the differences between the two networks, click here.

The most significant difference between GSM and CDMA devices is that GSM devices require the use of a SIM card. A removable SIM card allows the device to be instantly activated, interchanged and upgraded, all without the wireless provider’s intervention. The SIM card is tied to the network, rather than the actual phone. CDMA carriers in the U.S. require proprietary handsets that are linked to one carrier only and do not allow for the use of a removable SIM card. In order to upgrade a CDMA phone, the wireless provider must first deactivate the old phone before activating the new one thereby rendering the old pone useless.

Mobile Speak flavors

Prior to 4.0, there were 3 flavors of Mobile Speak: Mobile Speak for Symbian phones, Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones (aka Mobile Speak Smartphone) and Mobile Speak for Pocket PCs (aka Mobile Speak Pocket).

With 4.0 there are only 2 flavors of Mobile Speak: Mobile Speak for Symbian and Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile. Mobile Speak Smartphone and Mobile Speak Pocket have merged into Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile. This means that whatever supported Windows Mobile device you have, no matter if it is a Smartphone or Pocket PC (touch screen devices), the Mobile Speak installation file is the same. Therefore there are now 2 Mobile Speak installation files instead of 3: Mobile Speak for Symbian (.sis) and Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile (.exe).

Licensing Methods

Prior to 4.0, Mobile Speak for Symbian phones had a licensing method based on the phone's serial number (IMEI) whereas Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones and Mobile Speak for Pocket PCs had a user-centered licensing system based on the user's personal information (user's name and email address).

With 4.0 we unified the licensing methods, now Mobile Speak (Mobile Speak for Symbian as well as Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile) has a user-centered licensing system based on the user's phone number. It means that you don't have to manually deactivate your license from the old device in order to reactivate it in the new device anymore.

If you have a GSM mobile phone

If you insert your SIM card to another device, install and activate Mobile Speak, it will automatically start working. Therefore if you break your phone, you won't have to ask for a replacement license or a UID reset; you will only need to remove the SIM card from the broken device and insert it into the new one. Then, simply activate Mobile Speak. If you loose your phone or have your phone stolen, there are two possible scenarios. In any case you will certainly call your mobile operator to cancel your SIM card so that nobody can use your phone at your expense. Then you can either activate another SIM card with the same phone number or with a new phone number. If you get a new SIM card with the same phone number, when inserting the new SIM card in your new device and activating Mobile Speak, it will automatically start working. If you get a new SIM card with a new phone number you will have to buy a "transfer number".

Note that if you introduce a new SIM card into your phone, Mobile Speak will check for activation.

If you have a CDMA mobile phone

If you lose your CDMA phone you will probably go to get a new one. If so, you will have to call your carrier to deactivate your old phone and then activate the new one. If you asked your carrier to keep your phone number with the new device, then you will only have to install and activate Mobile Speak on the new phone and it will automatically start working as the licensing method is based on your mobile phone number. If you change your phone number, then you will have to buy a "transfer number".

Mobile Speak Cross Platform Licensing

Prior to 4.0, if you wanted to get Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile (Smartphone as well as Pocket PCs) you had to buy a User ID, whereas if you wanted to get Mobile Speak for Symbian phones you had to buy a license number.

With 4.0, you will buy a MOBILE SPEAK User ID. Your Mobile Speak User ID will be your MOBILE PHONE NUMBER. You won’t need to include the country code you’re calling from, as long as no other Mobile Speak user has the same phone number in another country. If you are required to include the country code follow these examples:

Country
Country Code
Mobile Phone Number
User ID
 United Kingdom  +44 072 3456 7890 447234567890
 France  +33 06 12 34 56 78 33612345678
 Spain +34 612 34 56 78  34612345678
 United States +1  404 123 4567 14041234567

Your Mobile Speak User ID will allow you to activate Mobile Speak software in any supported devices, no matter if you have a Symbian phone, Windows Mobile Smartphone or Pocket PCs. It will also allow you to transfer your license from a device to another, no matter if you first installed Mobile Speak in a Symbian phone and then want to transfer it to a Pocket PC or a Windows Mobile Smartphone. MOBILE SPEAK IS NOW CROSS DEVICE AND CROSS PLATFORM.

The license transfer from a handset to another is free, if you switch from a Symbian phone to another Symbian phone as well as if you switch from a Symbian phone to a Windows Mobile Smartphone or Pocket PC. There is no limitation on how many times you can change devices and platforms.

Mobile Speak User ID and Mobile Speak installation files

Your Mobile Speak User ID is unique and you only have one per wireless telephone number; regardless of which mobile operating system you are using.

Whether you are using Mobile Speak for Symbian or Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile. Your Mobile Speak User ID allows you to activate your license of Mobile Speak on any supported device. However there are 2 Mobile Speak installation files, one for Mobile Speak for Symbian and another for Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile. Therefore if you were using Mobile Speak in a Symbian phone, it means that you previously installed the Mobile Speak for Symbian installation file and activate it with your Mobile Speak User ID. Should you wish to transfer your license to a Windows Mobile device, first you will have to install the Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile installation file on your device and then activate the license with your Mobile Speak User ID.

Replacement license and User ID reset/ Transfer phone number

Prior to 4.0 when your phone was broken or stolen you had to send an official certificate to your distributor or Code Factory to get a free replacement license (if you had Mobile Speak for Symbian phone) or a free User ID reset (if you had Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphone or Mobile Speak for Pocket PCs).

With 4.0, the concepts of replacement license and User ID reset disappear as your User ID is now based on your phone number. As long as you don't change your phone number, by inserting your SIM card in a GSM device or activating your new CDMA phone, you will be able to activate Mobile Speak (without having previously deactivated your license from your old phone) on any supported handset. If for some reasons, you need to get a new phone number, then you will have to buy a "transfer number".

You will have to buy the "transfer number" to your distributor, not to Code Factory.

Version number

Prior to 4.0, the latest Mobile Speak versions available were Mobile Speak V2.1 for Windows Mobile Smartphones, Mobile Speak V2.1 for Pocket PCs and Mobile Speak V3.82 for Symbian phones.

We decided to synchronize the version number to 4.0 for all new Mobile Speak products. So, even if the previous version of Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones and Mobile Speak for Pocket PCs was V2.1, we jump to V4.0 as the latest version of Mobile Speak for Symbian was V3.82. There is not and won't be any V3.xx for Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones and Mobile Speak for Pocket PCs.
