Yes, AT&T customers can now purchase a supported Symbian Series 60 or Windows Mobile Standard smartphone with a Code Factory screen reader or screen magnification application from AT&T. For more information, read the official press release about this partnership between AT&T Mobility (formerly Cingular Wireless) and Code Factory, S.L., which was published last December 18, 2007. Please also visit the AT&T Disability Resources page to learn more about this offer.
At present, AT&T is offering the following Code Factory software products to customers with disabilities:
If you are eligible to purchase a Code Factory product from AT&T, the screen reader or screen magnifier for any of the supported platforms is separately available at a one-time payment of $89.00 each. In order to be eligible, however, you must have an AT&T account in good standing and a compatible AT&T-branded phone. Refer to the next two FAQ sections for more details.
You are also strongly advised to contact the National Center for Customers with Disabilities (NCCD) with your inquiries about this offer.
The NCCD is available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
Eligibility to purchase a Code Factory product from AT&T requires an AT&T account in good standing or a new AT&T mobile phone subscription, and an AT&T-branded phone that is part of the current offer. On the other hand, if:
No, AT&T is not an exclusive dealer of Code Factory products in any territory. It is, however, the first mobile network operator in the USA to actively provide full-fledged access solutions from Code Factory in order to enable the blind and visually impaired to use mainstream smartphones, thus setting the standard for mobile phone manufacturers and service providers.
This does not detract from the excellent service and support provided by other dealers in the United States, and Code Factory's Symbian Series 60 and Windows Mobile products are still available from many American dealers.
Mobile phones that are currently considered eligible to be used for the Code Factory products available from AT&T include:
Other Symbian-based and Windows Mobile-powered smartphones will be offered later by AT&T to customers with disabilities who are interested in using Code Factory screen reading and magnification products.
Not all devices supported by Code Factory are currently part of the AT&T offer to customers with disabilities. For example, the Samsung Blackjack II (WM6 Smartphone), the Cingular 2125 (WM5 Smartphone), and AT&T 8100, 8125, 8525, and Tilt 8900 and 8925, as well as the Palm Treo 750 (WM5 and WM6 Pocket PC phones) are all officially supported by Code Factory but are not part of the AT&T offer.
The decision on which phones are part of the offer is made by AT&T, not Code Factory. Moreover, the selection of phones depends on several factors including, but not exclusive to, whether the phone is compatible with Code Factory software. This does not mean that a device that Code Factory officially supports but is not part of the AT&T offer at present will never be made available to customers with disabilities. It simply means that it has not yet been selected by AT&T.
No, AT&T sells Code Factory products only to their subscribers who have an AT&T-branded phone that is listed as part of this offer to customers with disabilities. Refer to the AT&T Disability Resources page for the most updated list.
The AT&T offer concerning Code Factory products will not be limited to the phones currently available to customers with disabilities. As new phones are supported by Code Factory and selected by AT&T for recommendation to their customers, the list of phones on offer will be updated accordingly.
The general features, technical specifications, and physical description of each supported device are available at the Code Factory website. Refer to the list of compatible Symbian Series 60 phones and Windows Mobile Smartphones. Then select the AT&T phone you want to learn more about from the list of links to view the table of device details.
Any AT&T Mobility customer may purchase Mobile Speak or Mobile Magnifier (Symbian Series 60 and Windows Mobile Smartphone) from AT&T Mobility. Those who call up the National Center for Customers with Disabilities and state that they are interested in Code Factory’s products but do not intend to subscribe to AT&T services, will be referred to the website www.codefactory.es and given the email address sales@codefactory.es for an alternative dealer.

Case 3: Customers who have a phone but do not have access to the internet and/or sighted assistance may have their device shipped to the NCCD and the appropriate Code Factory product will be installed and activated for them, and then the phone will be shipped back.

Customers who purchase Code Factory products from AT&T Mobility will first be given a free 30-day trial license which will run concurrently with AT&T’s 30-day return policy for newly purchased phones. Near the end of the Return Period, the NCCD will contact the customer to provide them with their commercial license number or User ID if they are interested to keep the phone and the Code Factory product installed.
Trial licenses, unlike the full licenses, are date- and time-sensitive. If, for some reason, the date and time setting on your device changed so that it is now configured to an earlier time or a date that is outside the 30-day trial period, the trial activation will automatically expire as a security measure implemented by Code Factory.
First, try to correct the date and time on your phone. In some cases and on some phones (particularly those based on Windows Mobile), this will automatically reactivate the trial license. If this does not work, however, please request assistance from the National Center for Customers with Disabilities (NCCD).
Note that you may also contact Code Factory at support@codefactory.es for help with manual activations, but if you have a Symbian Series 60 phone, you will need to obtain first the trial license number that AT&T generated for you before instructions can be provided on reactivating the trial license.
Please keep in mind that the NCCD is available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.

yes, you will. At present, updates to all Code Factory products are available to existing registered users free of charge. You can either ship the phone to the NCCD so that they can install the upgrade for you, or if you have access to the internet / sighted assistance, you can upgrade the Code Factory product following the instructions provided to users of Symbian Series 60 phones and Windows Mobile Smartphones.
Code Factory has introduced a new licensing system that is user-centered, allowing the products to be registered to the user rather than be tied to the device on which the products were first used. With this new system, users are able to transfer their Code Factory product licenses from one compatible phone to another on their own and without extra charge for the software activation. TO read more about Code Factory's User-Centered Licensing, refer to the FAQ at www.codefactory.es/UCL. IF you need assistance with unlinking your User ID from the old device so that you can use it to activate Code Factory products on the new device, please contact the National Center for Customers with Disabilities (NCCD) and give them your User ID.
Note, however, that this system is currently available only for Code Factory's Windows Mobile products. Therefore, if you have a Symbian Series 60 phone, a new license must be issued by AT&T and the license number should be entered on the new Symbian-based smartphone to which you have upgraded. When you contact the NCCD for this new license, they will need to send Code Factory with official documentation stating that your phone has been replaced with a new one and that the old device is no longer in use. Doing so will waive the license transfer fee typically charged in such cases. The User-Centered Licensing system will be made available in Code Factory's Symbian products later this year.
If you have a Code Factory product that runs on a Symbian Series 60 phone, A new license needs to be generated for you after you have installed Mobile Speak or Mobile Magnifier and provided AT&T / NCCD with the new Code Factory product serial number. You will need to enter the new license on the new phone to activate the Code Factory software installed on it.
If you have a Code Factory product running on a Windows Mobile Smartphone, your User ID needs to be unlinked from the device that was lost or replaced before you can use it to activate the Code Factory software on the new phone.
You can get the new license generated or the User ID manually deactivated from the first device without extra charge if you send Code Factory official documentation proving that your old device is no longer being used by you. Such documentation may be a certificate from AT&T stating that the phone had to be replaced because it was stolen, lost or damaged, a police report about the theft of your phone, a form from your insurance provider stating that the phone was stolen, etc. You can contact the National Center for Customers with Disabilities (NCCD) for help in sending this document to Code Factory.
Yes, AT&T representatives at the National Center for Customers with Disabilities (NCCD) are trained to handle queries about the Code Factory products available from AT&T. For more technical questions, they will either contact or refer you to Code Factory Customer Support for further assistance.
Please also remember that in order to better assist you, each user of code factory products must have his/her inquiries answered, only by the dealer who sold him/her the license. AT&T representatives have been trained in the specific interactions between the mobile network, the mobile device, its firmware, the Code Factory software in question and its activation. They will be in a better position, therefore, to answer your questions and are also responsible for providing support or escalating queries to Code Factory if necessary.
To reach the National Center for Customers with Disabilities, call them at

Code Factory's office hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM, Central European Time (GMT +01:00).
All applications built into Windows Mobile Standard Edition and Symbian Series 60 are supported by Mobile Speak and Mobile Magnifier. This consists of the default programs used to:
However, if the phone comes with firmware that includes applications added by the mobile phone network provider, then accessibility of these programs cannot be guaranteed.

Code Factory products support several third-party applications, but please keep in mind that some programs do not use standard controls and so not all software from third-party developers will be accessible. For a list of currently supported third-party programs, refer to the Code Factory website for such a list of Symbian Series 60 and Windows Mobile Smartphone software.
No, Braille support is integrated into Code Factory screen readers as a free component. For your support queries, however, you will need to contact the company that manufactures or sells your Braille device, or Code Factory at support@codefactory.es. Visit the Code Factory website for a list of currently supported Braille input/output devices that you can use with Code Factory's Symbian Series 60 and Windows Mobile Smartphone screen readers.
Please contact your local Code Factory dealer or write to sales@codefactory.es for information on how you can obtain the TTS voice or Code Factory add-on in which you are interested. Note that additional voices and some add-ons are not free.
It is recommended that you first contact Code Factory at support@codefactory.es, or the National Center for Customers with Disabilities (NCCD), to find out if the latest version of the Code Factory product you are using is already officially supporting this new firmware. If it is, then please take note of the following:
Installing a new firmware on your phone will erase all user data and software that is not part of the older firmware which includes Code Factory products. Therefore, before upgrading to the latest ROM version, please create back-up copies of your data (e.g., contacts, messages, notes).
If you have a Windows Mobile smartphone, it is also important that you first deactivate the Code Factory products so that the User ID is unlinked from the device and the old firmware to avoid any problems that may arise if the new firmware changes something on the device that is used by Code Factory's licensing server to correctly identify it as the one associated with your User ID.
If you do not have access to a PC and/or internet connection, or you cannot get sighted assistance to install Code Factory products after the firmware upgrade, then you are advised to ship your device to the NCCD so that they can install the firmware upgrade, as well as reinstall and reactivate your Code Factory product. The phone will then be shipped back to you. If, on the other hand, you can download and install the phone firmware and Code Factory product on your own or with sighted assistance, then proceed with the firmware upgrade, and reinstall and reactivate the Code Factory product afterwards.
Customers who are not satisfied with the products or services offered by AT&T may return their equipment for exchange or cancel the services only within the first 30 days of service. Cancellations made during this timeframe will be released from contract with no penalty. Customers who choose to cancel during the First 30 days of service will receive a refund for the cost of equipment and/or software and will be billed for the activation fee and any usage charges incurred during the time the device was active. This may include pro-rated monthly service, airtime, messaging, data, or feature charges.
Documentation and support tools (user manuals, quick-start guides, audio presentations, etc.) are available from the Code Factory support page.
If you have an email account, you are also encouraged to subscribe to the mailing list for the Code Factory product you are using. Hundreds of users of Code Factory software are members of these mailing lists which are also closely monitored by Code Factory managers and developers. You can post here your questions, feature requests, and suggestions on how to make the products even better. Users on the lists are always happy to answer other people's questions and share tips on how to access the full functionality of the phone and Code Factory product.
